- Content creator
- Someone who makes videos, photographs, writing or audio. Production work can be paid even without a large following.
- Influencer / selebgram
- A creator with an audience whose choices they may influence. Selebgram commonly refers to an Instagram influencer.
- KOL (Key Opinion Leader)
- Someone trusted for experience or expertise in a field. KOL is not a professional credential. One person can also be a creator and influencer.

Open guide →A 30-day practice plan for beginners
Adjust to your time and circumstances. The first month’s goal is a portfolio and a clearer idea of what to improve. You may earn nothing yet.
- Days 1–7
Choose & prepare
Choose one audience and subject. Set up your bio. Write 10 audience questions. Film one practice video with your existing phone.
- Days 8–14
Make 3 samples
Make a tutorial, a first-hand experience and a question answer. This is a practice target, not a platform posting requirement.
- Days 15–21
Publish & learn
Publish at a sustainable pace. Record questions, available watch-time data and improvements needed.
- Days 22–30
Build a portfolio
Select 3 strong samples. Define your services and limits. Prepare a media kit, practise a pitch and apply for a free CariTalent profile.
Start with what you already own
Use a phone, window light, a quiet place and a stable support. Clean the lens. Test sound with a ten-second recording. Add captions so the video works without sound. Buy equipment once you understand the problem it needs to solve.
How much does a beginner influencer earn?
There is no fixed salary. Income may be zero and costs may exceed revenue. Payment depends on agreed work or qualifying commissions. Followers do not automatically turn into income.

How do I become a content creator as a beginner?
Choose one subject you understand and one platform. Make content that answers one viewer question, publish consistently and learn from data and comments. Collect three strong samples as a portfolio, prepare a media kit and approach relevant brands personally.
Can I start creating with no budget?
You can start with a phone, window light and free editing apps. There are still costs such as mobile data and time. Buy equipment once you know the problem it solves.
Can I become a creator without followers?
Yes. UGC work is judged on production quality rather than follower count. Each platform’s monetisation and affiliate programmes have their own requirements, so check official pages before applying.
Can I create without showing my face?
Yes. Use formats such as hands-and-product demonstrations, screen recordings, voice, animation or photography. The content still needs to be useful, honest and clearly sourced.
What does a content creator actually do?
Planning ideas, scripting, filming, editing, publishing, replying to comments and reading analytics. With brands, creators also prepare offers, explain usage rights, sign agreements and report results.
What is the difference between a selebgram, influencer, KOL and content creator?
A content creator makes content. An influencer has an audience that may act on their recommendations; selebgram is Indonesian slang for an Instagram influencer, now also used for TikTok. A KOL (key opinion leader) is trusted for expertise or experience in a field. One person can hold several of these roles.
