Promoters, ushers and brand staff: what is the difference?
- Sales promoters: explain products, hand out samples and support sales in stores, exhibitions or events.
- Ushers: welcome guests, handle registration, seat people and support event flow at seminars, concerts or weddings.
- Event promoters or brand representatives: represent a brand for specific activities. Titles vary by company, so ask about the actual duties.
Common requirements
Organisers usually look for people who are punctual, communicate clearly, learn product details and can work the event schedule. This is adult work: CariTalent only lists talent aged 18 or older.
Some ads list additional client requirements. Ask how they relate to the work. CariTalent does not rate physical appearance or publish body measurements.
How to start
Step 1: Prepare a simple profile
Use a clear headshot and a full-length photo in neat clothing without heavy filters. Add your base, reachable areas, languages and customer-facing experience.
Step 2: Learn products and scripts
Practise a thirty-second product explanation covering approved benefits, usage and the correct price. Never add claims beyond the brief.
Step 3: Apply through clear channels
Look for agencies or brands with an address, official contact and verifiable event history. You can check a company name on AHU Online.
Step 4: Attend the briefing
Note working hours, meeting point, uniform, breaks, targets and the on-site coordinator.
Step 5: Build a portfolio
After each job, ask permission to keep documentation and references. Record the event, role and date.
How are promoters and ushers paid?
Pay is usually per day or per shift, sometimes with sales bonuses for promoters. Ask whether meals, transport and uniforms are included, when payment is made and whether the agency deducts a fee.
Rates vary by city, brand and event, and CariTalent does not publish unsourced pay ranges. Ask for written details before accepting.
Job-ad red flags
- You are asked to pay registration, mandatory training or uniform fees before working.
- Venue, brand or working hours stay vague until the day.
- You are asked for photos unrelated to the work or to attend a “casting” at a private location.
- Pay is only promised verbally or is far above similar offers without explanation.
Apply for a free talent profile
CariTalent listings are free for talent aged 18 or older. Every application is reviewed, then prospective clients contact you directly. CariTalent does not manage talent, take commission or guarantee work.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need to become an usher?
Ushers need to be punctual, courteous, able to follow the coordinator and understand the event flow. You must be 18 or older to apply on CariTalent. Other requirements depend on the event and client.
What does working as an usher mean?
An usher welcomes and guides guests, supports registration and helps guests get the right information during an event.
What is the difference between a promoter and an usher?
Promoters focus on products: explaining, offering and sometimes meeting sales targets. Ushers focus on guests and event flow.
How much do promoters or ushers earn?
Pay varies by city, brand, duration and duties, so CariTalent does not publish figures. Ask for the daily or shift rate, included allowances and payment date in writing.
Do I need an agency?
Not always. Some brands and organisers hire directly. Agencies can help you find work, but check their identity and get any deductions in writing.
